Old MacDonald is a popular nursery rhyme for a reason. I think farm life combines a few of young kids’ biggest loves: animals and trucks. Plus, it’s somewhat educational, as kids eventually start to get a sense of where their food comes from. If you’re looking for a gift for a 2-year-old who is enamored with the world of farming, you’ve come to the right place. Here are a few solid farm toy suggestions for 2-year-olds.

Tractor Toys
I wrote a full post on tractor toys for 2-year-olds, so head over there to get the full list. (In case you were wondering, other farm vehicles outside of tractors seem to be pretty limited for the toddler crowd. I saw some toy combines and hay balers that looked toddler-friendly, but all said they were for 3 and up, and there weren’t many options.)
Miniature Farms Designed for 2-Year-Olds
If you search for “play farm” on Amazon or elsewhere on the internet, you’ll see plenty of options to choose from. Many of these play farms are advertised for ages 3 and up, though. As I wrote in my post explaining small parts warnings on toys, the “3 and up” recommendation might be due to small parts that could potentially break off the toy, or it could just be that the toys are heavier or more complicated than is ideal for 2-year-olds. All of the following play barns are designed for the 2-year-old age range:

Wooden Farm Trains for 2-Year-Olds
I already wrote a post on the best wooden train sets for 2-year-olds, and almost every major line of wooden train sets for toddlers (and for older kids) has a set of farm-specific accessories. Here are a few options:
DUPLO Play Farm
These could technically be included in the miniature farm toy category, but they’re also a building toy and are compatible with whole LEGO DUPLO universe. All Duplo toys are designed for toddlers, are choke-hazard free, and tend to be used for years by kids who love building.
Farm Puzzles
If you’re looking for something beyond play barns and miniatures for a toddler who loves farm animals, it’s difficult to go wrong with a puzzle.
